The store scan reads the technical data of the image files in your store, that is metadata such as Content Credentials (C2PA) or the IPTC value trainedAlgorithmicMedia, and shows where an AI note is and which images are already marked for the label. It is not an image analysis: the scan only sees that an image was made with AI if the file says so. If the file data is missing, for example because it was removed during optimisation, it says so explicitly.
What the scan reads
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Find pages | From the sitemap listed in robots.txt, otherwise from the links on the home page. Product pages first. |
| Collect images | Every img with the largest variant from srcset, plus the page's preview image (og:image). Not images under 48 pixels or SVG graphics. |
| Read file data | The same check as Check an AI image: C2PA with an AI source type, IPTC note, AI system, generator data in PNG files and hints in the software field and file name. If the data is missing entirely, it shows “No file data”. |
| Detect marking | Whether an image is marked for the widget: attribute data-ai-label, --ai in the file name or “(AI-generated)” at the end of the alt text. |
No image analysis
The scan does not look at the images. It only reads what is technically in the file, and that is often lost: when cutting out, when exporting from image editors and when the CDN of many store systems delivers the image. According to reports in the Shopify community, Shopify also strips IPTC data from delivered images. So check above all the images you created or edited with AI yourself, and use the labelling check to clarify whether a label is needed.
Channel export
With an account, select images from the list and download them as a ZIP, labelled for the channel where they appear. It includes a table from the old image address to the new file name, for example for a supplemental feed.
- Own store, newsletter, social: label in the image and AI note in the file.
- Google Shopping: label with more margin and the IPTC note that Merchant Center requires for AI images. More under Google Shopping.
- Amazon main image: only the note in the file, because the image rules for the main image largely exclude text. More under Amazon.
Every exported image counts towards your allowance. Files with Content Credentials stay unchanged, because any change would break their signature.
Privacy
The server only reads public pages and image files and passes the images to your browser for the check; none of it is stored. With an account we save the list of images with AI traces or marking to your history, without image data. Only scan stores you run or manage.
Frequently asked questions
Does the scan detect whether an image was made with AI?
Only if the file says so. The scan does not analyse the image; it reads the technical data. If that is missing, because a generator writes none or it was removed during optimisation and upload, it cannot tell. A result without an AI note does not prove an image is real.
Are my images stored?
No. The server passes the files to your browser for the check. With an account we save the list of images with traces or marking to your history, without image data.
How often should I scan?
After every larger image update. In your account history you see how many images with AI traces were added since the last scan.
Does the scan work with Shopify?
Yes, it reads any public store. Because Shopify may strip metadata on delivery, it often finds little there. Across a whole Shopify store, the Shopify app does the labelling.
